(TerrisFight.org press release - click on title to read Press Release)December 29, 2004, Sacramento, CA: Life Legal Defense Foundation echoes the sentiments in the press release issued by attorneys for Terri Schiavo's parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, in response to the latest decision by the Florida Second District Court of Appeal. By today's decision, a court that should be protecting Terri's life has made it clear that it will not. By denying the Schindlers' motion, the court is ignoring Terri's religious liberty rights and depriving her of the protection of the law. Not even a criminal would be sentenced to death without legal representation, but Terri has been, and she would be be dead now if not for the legal battle her parents have been waging on her behalf.
Because the appeals court did not issue a written opinion along with their order of December 29, 2004, the decision cannot be appealed to the Florida Supreme Court. That means, the only hope Terri's parents have of preventing their daughter from being starved to death rests on the appeals court to rehear the case or the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold Terri's Law, which allowed Florida Governor Jeb Bush to ask doctors to keep the gastric tube in place.
